Drakshayanamma of Rangapura village in Holalkere taluk had no other way but had to go for daily labour along with her family members to fill the rice bowl. It was great struggle for pittance as the business was not very lucrative. The financial institutions were also dumb for their request.
Meanwhile, she heard about SKDRDP NABARD LEDP program at Holalkere taluk and joined the skill development program. As a member of Jnanajyothi self-help group, Drakshayanamma was trained for 15 days by the expert resource persons under LEDP.
Turning point in life
As promised by the organisers, technical and marketing support was provided to establish an areca leaf plate making unit. She borrowed a loan of Rs 70,000 to purchase the machine, materials and to build a work shed. The livelihood has opened the avenue and the business has not disappointed her as she could earn Rs 11,340 per month. She used to sell around 6,300 areca leaf plates with the help of Siri.
The LEDP program has made her life self-sustainable, otherwise which would have been very disappointing. It has filled her barn, helped to educate her children and she can even meet her suppressed wishes with financial stability. She expressed her thanks to NABARD and SKDRDP for bringing change in her life.
Drakshayanamma is not satisfied and wants to purchase one more machine and increase the production of plates.
