Bhagyamma of HD Pura village and her family members had no other way but had to depend on daily labour. However, it was just enough to fill their stomach and there was no ray of hope of development. Then they heard about NABARD SKDRDP LEDP programme at Holalkere taluk.
As a part of the skill development programme, Bhagyamma was trained for 15 days by the expert resource persons under LEDP. As per the promise, the organisers, provided the technical, financial and marketing support to establish a areca leaf plate making unit. Bhagyamma borrowed a loan of Rs 1,00,000 to purchase the machines, materials and to purchase the machines, materials and to make a work shed .
For Bhagyamma it was opening of a livelihood. This plate making using areca leaves didn’t disappoint her. The lady with enthusiasm and guts could yield up to Rs 18,800 per month with the help of two machines. She can sell upto 10,100 areca plates with the help of SIRI.
NABARD SKDRDP LEDP programme was definitely a turning point in the life of Bhagyamma. From rather disappointing situation of her life, she became a self-sustainable. Now, she is proud of her achievement and wants to increase the production of plates.
