In Dakshina Kannada district 68,000 farmers are living through engaging themselves in dairy farming by rearing a total 4,65,252 cattles which includes 2,52,401 cows and buffalos. In Dakshina Kannada district 107 veterinary hospitals are working under the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services are providing services to dairy farmers and plays major role in protecting the animals.
The Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada district has more than 66,000 animals which produces 1,15,000 liters of milk daily. It is pleasure to say an average of 40% of the total milk production of Dakshina Kannada district is produced in our Belthangady taluk.
It is worth mentioning that under the guidance of Rev. Dr.D.Veerendra Heggade, the Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (R.) plays a major role for the past several years by encouraging people through study tours, farming training, health camps and providing financial support through SHG for purchase of cows.
So far, SKDRDP had released grant amount of Rs. 30.53 crores for construction of buildings and purchase of equipment to 4,651 Milk Producers Co-operative Societies across the state. Out of this, Rs 53 lakh have been given to 87 Milk Producers Co-operative Societies in Belthangady Taluk.
In the current situation, in Dakshina Kannada district the milk production the number of good breeds needs to be increased rapidly. By considering this, Rev Shri D Veerendra Heggade, President of SKDRDP and Matrushree Hemavathi V. Heggade, President of Jnanavikasa, distributed the 45 liquid nitrogen jars to the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services.
