The majority of farmers used to grow paddy in kavradi village of Kundapur Taluk, Udupi District. For the past 3 decades farmers left paddy growing due to shortage of water. The rejuvenation of Bhagala lake under Nammuru Namma Kere programme of SKDRDP gave new belief to farmers. About Rs. 9 lakh was used for the rejuvenation of Bhagala lake. 1200 loads of fertile soil were used by farmers. The lake currently stores about 10 feet of deep water and benefits 300 acre agriculture land of 60 families.
Now, 15 families growing paddy crops on the 20 acres of land that had not been used in the last 30 years. Around 40 farmers are preparing to grow paddy crops.
Bagala lake has started irrigating the rich crops of Kavadi villagers who were suffering from lack of water during rainy season also.
