SKDRDP and Janajagruthi Vedike: Campaign for an Addiction-Free Society

The JanaJagruthi Rally and Convention was held on October 14, 2025, in Raichur to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti and promote de-addiction. The rally began at the Mahatma Gandhi Sports Ground, where the Project’s Regional Director, the President of the Janajagruthi Vedike, and other dignitaries garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and cut the ribbon. The procession, featuring Dollu Kunitha and other cultural troupes, saw participants carrying Purna Kumbha and young children dressed as freedom fighters, who chanted anti-alcoholism slogans to capture public attention. The main convention was held at the Pundit Siddharama Jambaladinni Rang Mandir Auditorium. The event was jointly organized by the Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) B.C. Trust (Regd.), the Karnataka State Temperance Board, Bengaluru, and local Self-Help Group Federations. Shri Ṣha. Bra. Abhinava Rāchōṭi Veera Shivacharya Mahāswamiji of Somwarpet Hiremath inaugurated the event, expressing concern that people are now in a situation where they have to abandon children addicted to bad habits. Other key speakers included Shri Sharanaappa Sadalapura, President of the Karnataka State Temperance Board, who stressed the collective responsibility of building a healthy, addiction-free society, and Shri J. Chandrashekhar, Regional Director of SKDRDP, who warned that narcotics are unknowingly reaching children through everyday products. The program concluded with the felicitation of the 2024 Karnataka Rajyotsava Award winner, Shri Sadashivappa, and the Krishi Pandita Award winner, Shri Anjaneya Ayyāḷappa, and the distribution of various welfare benefits like pension letters and scholarship grants.
