The Shuddha Ganga Drinking Water Unit was inaugurated at Venkatesh Nagar, Kalaburagi, through a joint effort by the Kalaburagi City Corporation and the Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP). Shri Allam Prabhu Patil, the Honorable MLA for Kalaburagi South Constituency, officially launched the unit by cutting the ribbon, performing a symbolic puja, and starting the machinery to begin water distribution. He praised Dr. Veerendra Heggade’s name as immortal in the service sector, highlighting SKDRDP’s diverse work in providing drinking water units, developing lakes, offering pensions to the destitute, and supplying furniture and teachers to schools.
Shri Ganapathi Malanji, the Kalaburagi District Director for the Dharmasthala institution, was present and clarified that the Shuddha Ganga units are not for profit but for the convenience of the people. He explained the affordable pricing: 20 liters of pure water for just five rupees. He also noted that if members recharge their card for Rs.90 per month, they could get the same 20 liters of water for an even lower price of only three rupees.
Shri Shivasharanappa Seeri emphasized the importance of clean drinking water for human health and urged everyone to take advantage of the pure water now available at such a low cost thanks to the Dharmasthala institution. He also stressed that maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the unit is a shared responsibility of all the citizens. The event was attended by dignitaries including Shri Rajagopal Reddy, Shri Shivakumar Padashetti, SKDRDP officials Riyaz Attar and Fakhiresh, and numerous members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and other citizens.
