The 2040th De-addiction Camp (Madyavarjana Shibira) was held on 22 January 2026 at Manjunathayya–Meenakshamma Kalyana Mantapa, Suntikoppa, in Madikeri Taluk. The programme was organised under the guidance and blessings of Padma Vibhushan Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade and Dr. Hemavathi V. Heggade, by the 2040th De-addiction Camp Management Committee, Suntikoppa, in association with the Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP), Madikeri Taluk, Akhila Karnataka Janajagruti Vedike Trust, Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara De-addiction and Research Centre, Laila, Ujire, and the Karnataka State Alcohol Regulation Board, Bengaluru.
Speaking at the programme, Shri M. B. Abhimanyu Kumar, Founder President of the Janajagruti Vedike, Kodagu, explained the objectives and activities of the Janajagruti Vedike and highlighted the valuable contributions of SKDRDP towards public welfare and social reform, particularly in creating awareness against addiction.Shri Ganesh Acharya, Project Officer of the Coastal Regional Division, Janajagruti Vedike, spoke about the origin, growth, and various programmes of the Janajagruti Vedike and presented the background and significance of the 2040th De-addiction Camp.
Shri A. T. Rangaswamy, President of the District Janajagruti Vedike, Kodagu, was present on the occasion and conveyed his best wishes for the success of the programme. The event was also attended by Shri P. R. Sunil Kumar, President of the 2040th De-addiction Camp Management Committee and Honorary President of the Workshop Owners Association, Suntikoppa, and Mr. Basappa (ASI) from the Suntikoppa Police Station, who extended their support to the initiative.
Other dignitaries and participants included Mr. D. Narasimha, Member of the District Janajagruti Vedike, Kodagu; Mr. Purushottam, Taluk Project Officer, Madikeri; Mr. Shivakumar, Gram Panchayat Member; along with district and taluk Janajagruti Vedike members, camp officials, supervisors, service representatives, federation office-bearers, and volunteers, all of whom actively participated in the programme.
