From Skill to Self-Reliance: Shailaja’s Journey of Empowerment

Shailaja, a resident of Devanahalli village, holds qualifications in fashion designing. After joining a Self-Help Group (SHG), she acquired comprehensive knowledge of various Sangha activities and livelihood development programs. With the support of SKDRDP, she availed a loan of Rs. 3 lakhs to strengthen her agricultural activities. Through SHG-supported training, she learned four-wheeler driving and tailoring, which enabled her to establish her own tailoring unit. She has also imparted tailoring training to interested girls and women in her village, thereby promoting skill development and self-reliance.

As part of the Sangha, she participated in a study tour that exposed her to improved agricultural practices. Applying this knowledge and financial support, she cultivated Sevanthi (chrysanthemum) and rose flowers on her own land. Through her determination, effective utilization of credit, and entrepreneurial spirit, she has emerged as a role model in the community, inspiring many to pursue sustainable livelihoods. Her journey stands as a testimony to the transformative impact of SKDRDP’s initiatives, for which she expresses her sincere gratitude to the organization and its founders.
